Empirical Labs Fatso EL7x Analogue Tape Simulator/Optimiser
General
Just because it's become so convenient, a lot of producers and sound engineers now work exclusively 'in-the-box'. While it makes life easier to stick to a computer, there is a downside: the loss of the analogue warmth and satisfaction of working with tape, and the risk of making sterile and lifeless-sounding work. The Empirical Labs Fatso EL7x has been designed to counter exactly that, putting a fully analogue tape simulator and optimiser at your disposal, complete with knee-compression. Feed this machine anything and it'll feel like it just came out of a high-end analogue studio. The controls aren't just tactile, but as simple and intuitive as the interface of most of your plugins. Meanwhile the built-in compressor is brand new and based on the Urei 1176LN, so in the slowest attack mode, it supports a 20:1 ratio, giving you soft compression of just a few decibels whenever needed.
